The main goal of orthodontics is mainly to correct incorrectly arranged teeth to improve the bite, function, and appearance. Orthodontics is often associated with children. Early in a kid’s life, interceptive orthodontics helps create the required space to ease the outbreak of permanent teeth. However, more and more adults undergo orthodontic treatment to realign their permanent teeth. Since the basic procedure of tooth movement is the same in children and adult cases.
Some of the reasons for undergoing orthodontic treatment:
- To correct an overbite, underbite, or teeth that are too high
- To realign teeth
- To correct dental overlap or space between teeth
- To prevent early decay of teeth
Determining to have your teeth straightened is always a good thought, not only to enhance the appearance of your smile. Straightening also improves the functioning of the teeth and the jaw muscles. A dental condition exposes patients to several difficulties:
- Increased number of cavities due to the intricacy of cleaning overlaying teeth
- Ruptures in poorly placed teeth
- Chronic inflammation of the gums
- Temporomandibular joint problems
There are two types of orthodontic treatments: Traditional Braces & Invisalign Clear Aligners.
Traditional Braces
Braces are the best-known orthodontic treatment. It is vital to know that braces have changed a significant deal in recent years and are now more prudent. Small metal brackets are attached to the front of the teeth and interconnected using an archwire. The tightness of the wire may differ from gradually shifting the teeth as per the predetermined plan.
This design uses very slight but constant pressure on the teeth to move them into their expected position. The wire will require to be replaced several times with a thicker wire to resume moving the teeth until the desired results.
Once the braces are installed they must be adjusted to keep the correct pressure. Routine follow-up appointments every 6 to 8 weeks are mandatory to let the orthodontist monitor the ongoing treatment.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are a key for patients looking for a unique orthodontic treatment than traditional braces, as they do not want to use brackets or wires. Invisalign aligners are a modern and nearly invisible way to restore mild to moderate orthodontic problems. They align teeth just like traditional braces but use a transparent, removable aligner. Invisalign treatment provides more stunning results & is more effective than traditional braces.
People who are more conscious about the way they will look after wearing meta/ braces can surely go for Invisalign as they are nearly invisible. Traditional braces and adjustment appointments are typically every six to eight weeks. On the other hand, clear aligners are changed every two weeks on average, based on your orthodontist’s suggestions. Applying the required amount of pressure aligner adjusts your teeth as per the plan decided by your orthodontist.
In general, orthodontic treatment using clear aligners is faster than traditional braces. Since patient adherence is critical to the success of the treatment, patients must follow the rules of wearing their aligners all the time to avoid extending the treatment or compromising the results. Never remove the Invisalign tray except while eating and brushing.
